Items Made Just for Takeout
With COVID-19 wreaking havoc on our industry and either shutting down restaurants or turning them into delivery/carryout-only, it’s important to figure out what dishes travel best. This gallery by Restaurant Hospitality shows menu items made just for traveling distances longer than from your kitchen to your dining room table.
The Vital Importance of Social Distancing
This infographic, based on calculations by Robert A. J. Signer, Assistant Professor of Medicine at the University of California San Diego, shows how this so-called social distancing can reduce the spread of the virus. With no changes to social behavior, one infected person will on average pass the virus to 2.5 people within five days. After 30 days, the figure would rise to a devastating 406 new infections. The number can be significantly reduced though by engaging in less social contact. With a 75% reduction, the number of new infections caused by the average person after 30 days is just 2.5 people.
Pretty Woman Still the Highest-Grossing Rom-Com Ever

Coronacrisis: Day 12
BAIL OUT?
Why it matters to you: We are all wondering if the government will step in to help our industry.
Let’s be frank…we are in unchartered waters here. Who among us could have imagined this scenario even a week ago! Of course, our community is nothing but resilient. This is clearly evidenced by the number of operators that have quickly converted their business model to be home delivery and carryout focused. For many of us, it may be the only business you do in the next few months. There are many already calling for direct relief from the Federal government for restaurants, but will it be enough or come in time?
None of us can know, but we also have to find ways to move forward. If you haven’t already done it, we strongly encourage you to communicate directly with your customers. Tell them what you are experiencing in direct and honest terms. From there you can share your plans and keep your connections. The alternative -- doing nothing -- means you will disappear without a peep.
Whether the government steps in will be determined in time, but for those of you that are closed altogether, this moment must be equal parts frustrating and terrifying. This will undoubtedly cause permanent closures, but it doesn’t have to be that way. Now is the time to start talking to your vendors, lenders, and landlords.
We can’t guarantee your business will survive these next few months, but we can promise to have an open and direct conversation about how you fight to keep your livelihood. We are as affected by this as every restaurant! So please know, we are in this fight with you, every step of the way.
