3 TIPS TO RUNNING A SOCIAL MEDIA CAMPAIGN [Sponsored by UpServe]

Why it’s important to you: You can still be the “Big Mac” on social media even with a small fry budget.

We’re going to go out on a limb here and assume that if you’re reading this, your restaurant empire is not yet as big as McDonald’s. We can also assume that your restaurant does not have the marketing budget that KFC does. That doesn’t mean you can’t have an amazing social media presence. Here are three tips for improving your social media plan.

DID YOU KNOWS…

The eating/lifestyle habits of the DNC & RNC.

Earlier we told you about the fun little quiz that “tells” you if you eat like a Democrat or a Republic. Now that the RNC and DNC is over, Yelp did some digging into the search terms for Cleveland and Philly during the week of the conventions. The results are pretty humorous if not insightful.

The future of beer?

Leave it to Belgium scientists to figure this one out, but they’ve pioneered a new way of creating beer through purification of urine. The urine is collected in a tank that’s heated by a solar-powered boiler. It’s then filtered through a membrane that separates recycled water to make beer but other useful fertilizers. The scientists think this will help create sustainable farming methods for developing nations… but also pee-beer. So the next time you think your beer tastes like piss, well, you might know why.

Poop de Jour

File this under “Do you (want) to know” but a poop-themed restaurant is opening up in Toronto. The Poop Cafe Dessert Bar is “trying to make poop cute.” The shop will serve dishes that are brown and shaped like poop (think the poop emoji and not a pile of turd), and they’re going all out in their decor, too.

I’M EVERY WOMAN [Song]

Why it’s important to you: Massachusetts is typically ahead of the rest of the country with protective legislation.

Massachusetts Governor Charlie Baker (R) signed into law a sweeping reform that aims to insure women get equal pay for equal work. The bill makes it illegal for an employer to request salary history from any employee candidate prior to making an offer, although a candidate can share that info voluntarily. The argument is that by not allowing employers access to that information, they can’t use a woman’s prior history to low ball her, thus perpetuating unequal pay for women. As recently as last week, the Feds have outlined their own efforts to close the gender pay gap.

Additionally, the law stops employers from blocking their staff from revealing their salaries to one another. By precluding employers from disciplining employees for sharing that information, it creates another measure that facilitates salary fairness. There is some good news for employers. If a company can demonstrate they are addressing pay equity gaps internally, they are shielded from lawsuits for the first three years of the legislation, which is slated to become law in 2018.

FIGHT CLUB IS REAL

Why it’s important to you: And we’re breaking the first rule of Fight Club by talking about it.

As Tyler Durden taught us, “This is your life, and it’s ending one minute at a time.” For Bobby Gunn nothing could be further from the truth. You see, this guy is 73-0 in Bare-Knuckle Boxing and he wants you to know it. The truth is that Fight Club exists and it’s totally illegal. However, there is something so raw and honest about it, you’ll excuse their wayward behavior. The attached video is eight minutes of fascinating character study as you follow Bobby Gunn and his journey to Bare-Knuckle Champ. These are the same guys that faced Kimbo Slice during his street days and they never stopped fighting.

THE RACE CARD

Why it’s important to you: Charles Barkley on race and culture; what’s not to love?

Sir Charles has always been a controversial character, whether it’s his widely reported gambling, “I am not a role model” thinking or comments on the current state of our culture, Barkley is unafraid to share his opinion. It appears his bosses at TNT are so enamored of his unfiltered approach they have created a new show featuring him called The Race Card. The six one-hour episodes intend to follow Barkley as he digs deep into racism in America and helps shed light on why the country “is so divided right now.” We can’t wait to see where this leads. Could Barkley be the next Bill O’Reilly? Either way, it’s worthy of a look and might even be a studio show you want to share with your guests.
