Use white vinegar to get streak-free windows [Hack #059]

Squeaky clean!

You may recall we offered you a cleaning hack several months back that centered on using discarded newspaper to achieve streak free windows. Well, today’s restaurant hack is the other half of that perfect window equation. Vinegar is a miracle elixir. It’s basically spoiled wine and yet it is non-toxic, anti-bacterial and super cheap.

When it comes to glass cleaning, the vinegar acts quickly to break down any grease or particulate film on glass surfaces. There are several formulas for preparing a vinegar based solution depending on how horrible the condition of the windows you are cleaning.

First Vinegar Wash

For Windows that are new to vinegar washing. This is a little more concentrated and should only be necessary the first time.

2 c. water
1/4 c. white vinegar
1/2 tsp. dishwashing detergent or liquid

Combine these ingredients in a spray bottle, then just spray and clean.

Regular Vinegar Wash

Now your windows are clean and this formula is for maintenance

1 c. water
1 c. white vinegar

Combine these ingredients in a spray bottle, spray and clean. This is for normal windows.

Vinegar Wash for Horrible Grimmy Windows

Yup, the windows in question look like they are out of a horror movie. This formula will get them clean or they simply can’t be…

1 c. full strength white vinegar

Warm up the solution and use directly on glass to clean.

Give it a try. It’s far less expensive than regular window cleaner, is incredibly eco-friendly and just plain does a better job. What’s not to love?
